To see exciting "Mayan" attractions you need to travel a bit further south to Xcaret or Tulum where dancers perform and the traditional Mayan ballcourt game is presented.
There are Mayan ruins up that way as well or you can head into the interior and visit the great Chichen Itza or Uxmal.

Aquaworld's Jungle Tour allows you to drive your own boat through mangroves and explore the coral reef. Aquaworld also offers diving, a "sub-see" submarine explorer and double-seater para-chairs. Aquaworld is located at km 15.2 on Kukulcan blvd.
Parque Nizuc [Wet'n Wild] is a marine park at the southern end of Cancun's Hotel Zone. Here you can snorkel, try the various waterslides and swim in a wave pool.

La Destileria Adventure into the historical land of tequila awaits you at the museum-restaurant La Destileria located on Kukulcan Blvd. in the Hotel Zone. You can pick up a guided tour Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:00 p.m. The tour traces tequila from the planting to the aging/bottling process.
Captain Hook - Experience an adventure aboard two 17th century authentic Spanish Galleon replicas! Enjoy a lively pirate show, exquisite food and an entire night of games. These spectacular galleons are 93 ft in length and can hold up to 350 passengers. Departures from Playa Linda.

Minigolf is available at the Cancun Palace Hotel km 14.5 Blvd. Kukulcan in the hotel zone.
Bowling - Cancun has two bowling alleys: Bol Kukulcan in the Hotel Zone and Wol-Ha on Ave. Tulum downtown.

MayaVentura unfolds in a human-size mega-labyrinth in which players must overcome various obstacles, traps and undercover secret worlds.
The Treasure of Ka Satun is a treasure hunt where explorers are encouraged to freely roam the confusing passageways in search of answers.
Mystic Night is orchestrated by Mayan dances and a Mayan shaman. These rituals take place in the four different temples, Earth, Fire, Water and Wind.
MayaVentura is open from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Mariachis Bands wander between establishments on Yaxchilan Ave., downtown and they are available for hire for a serenade or a party!
Rancho Loma Bonita: Horseback ride through the jungle mangroves, lakes and the Caribbean Sea. You can also ride a 4-wheeler, snorkel, bicycle or kayak around lagoons or swim in the pool. There is also a restaurant. Located at km 45 on the Cancun-Tulum highway.

Isla Mujeres
The Island of Women is located 11 km off the coast of Cancun and is known for its relaxed tropical setting and turquoise blue, bathtub warm water. Ferries leave from five points of isla Cancun. You can catch ferries at Punta Sam, Puerto Juarez, Playa Linda Terminal, Playa Tortugas and the Club Nautico Dock. Bicycles and Mopeds can be rented on the island. Taxis are available and there is an infrequent local bus service.

The Isla Mujeres Turtle Farm is a scientific facility where you can see sea turtles in the hundreds. There are Mayan ruins just past Playa Garrafon but Hurricane Gilbert nearly finished them off. Snorkeling and dive tours are available from the many dive centers on the island.

Every Wednesday a Mexican folkloric show and bullfight takes place.
Cancun Queen
Enjoy a cruise on a two floor classic paddlewheel. Experience a night of dancing to a live band, fine dining and a scenic lagoon cruise on this traditional Mississippi River Boat.

Interactive Aquarium
The Interactive Aquarium is a fun place to visit and experience marine life like never before. Children can interact with sea creatures and visitors can swim with dolphins and feed sharks from inside a clear, protective, Plexiglas box, which is lowered into the shark tank.
Located in the heart of the hotel zone in the Isla Shopping Center.
La Torre Cancun
For the best view of Cancun you can go to the top of La Torre Cancun, a rotating tower at the El Embarcadero park and entertainment complex.
Located at Paseo Kukulkán Km 4.
Submarines
There are two "submarine" type experiences you can take while in Cancun. One ship stays afloat, but has an underwater subversive galley that lowers all passengers well below the saline. The galley has a glass bottom that will allow you to see the spectacular Caribbean flora and fauna. You'll also have the opportunity of admiring an array of tropical fish, marine turtles, rays and dolphins.
The other ship is a real submarine piloted by a professional and licensed crew. This fascinating adventure takes you along the beautiful coral reefs, on a tour through the lagoon and into the sea with dives up to depths of 100 feet.

CANCUN MUSEUMS
Museo de Antropologia e Historia is Cancun's museum of anthropology and history. It is located on the Zona Hotelera on the south side of the Centro de Convenciones. Most of the descriptive signs are in Spanish, but you can get an English info sheet at the ticket counter. Also known as Museo Arqueológico de Cancún.
Museo de Arte Popular Mexicano displays a unique collection of masks, regional folkloric costumes, religious artifacts, nativity scenes, toys, musical instruments and gourd art. Located on the second floor of the El Embarcadero Marina, Bulevar Kukulkan Km 4.
OUTSIDE CANCUN
The majority of the "big attractions" such as

, cenotes and the ruin sites are located within a one - two hour drive from Cancun. These sites are easily accessed via tours, Mexican bus or renting a car.

MAYAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES
Cancun has a few small Mayan ruin sites [used as decorations for golf courses]. The ruin sites that you can visit outside of Cancun are Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Coba, Xel-Ha and Tulum.
TravelYucatan.com offers tours to: Chicken Itza, Coba and Tulum only.
Nobody offers tours to Xel-Ha ruins and we are not sure if any tour companies offer tours to Ek Balam.
Some tour companies offer day excursions to Uxmal.
