The Tale Of The Newsboy Once upon a time there was a little newsboy who was very, very poor and he only sold old newspapers because he didn't have enough money for new ones. People didn't by his newspapers because they were all so out of date, and they wanted new newspapers. So the little newsboy never sold any, and every day he accumulated more and more old newspapers. What the little newsboy did was put up a paper recycling plant, and he became a millionaire, bought out all the newspaper businesses and the news agencies, prohibited publishing current news, and thus obliged people to read only news of the past. In the papers on sale today, for example, you'd read that the Zapatistas are about to arrive in Mexico City and that they'll meet with the Villistas there. You can't quite make out the date, but it seems to either 1914 or 1997.

CANCUN NIGHTLIFE & CLUB SCENE

The Cancun club scene has something for everyone, from mega-clubs to cozy cigar lounges and everything in between.

The mega-clubs feature gut-pounding music with bubble balloons, foam, ticker tape, circus performers, giant video screens, costumed waiters, bikini contests, wrestling, light shows, go-go dancers and live DJs.

Smaller clubs like Carlos´N Charlie´s offer comfortable ambience reminiscent of bars found almost anywhere with music, food and bar games. Hotel clubs offer a more refined experience catering to those looking to dress up. The hotel clubs also serve top shelf brand spirits as well.

Also found throughout the tourist zone and downtown Cancun are numerous smaller café type bars where you can sit on plastic chairs and get cheap drinks.

The majority of clubs and cafes offer food during the day and some also during the evening. Bars generally close at 1:00am while the mega-clubs stay open all night.

Most of the mega-clubs have an "all-you-can-drink" option, included in your cover charge so you pay at the door then not have to worry about paying for drinks for the night.

GETTING TO THE CLUBS

Most of the hotels offer a bar tour that is either free or real cheap. They take you in a bus/van to a different club every night or the top 4-5 clubs, one club per night. Some even go to more than one club in a night, it depends on the hotel. The bus leaves around 2:00 to take you back to the hotel. Many of the hotels have bars open until 4:00 a.m. some 24/7.

You can also take a taxi from your hotel and also from club to club if you want to check out more than one club in a night.

The party generally starts after 10:00 and is rocking by 12:00. 12:00 to 1:00am seems to be the peak and then things thin out and the die-hards are left.

Yes there are sports bars in Cancun with big-screen TV's.

ALL major sporting events are broadcast, in English [World Cup Football in Spanish as well].

This includes NFL, NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball and any and all football [soccer].

Kelly's Sports Bar
Located in the Avalon Grand Hotel.
Multiple screens [2 cable systems - SKY/CABLEMAS], food, and cold beer.

ADVICE FOR GIRLS & PARENTS

The Cancun Hotel Zone is very Americanized. It's clean, touristy and filled with lots of interesting attractions. Police patrol both in uniform and under-cover.

Club owners provide tight security. Patrons are of course encouraged to get lively but if anybody gets out of control things are handled quickly.

Many clubs offer a "drink all you can" under the cover charge. This of course leads to over indulgence and lots of drunk people as the night progresses.

What we see as the two biggest problems are groping and petty thefts. You need to keep an eye on anything you bring into a club with you. A nice jacket left sitting on a chair while you dance can disappear.

Groping is not reserved for young attractive inebriated girls. We have talked to mature women staying in 5 star resorts who have been groped in the hotel disco.

The greater majority of persons perpetrating these acts are not Mexicans but other tourists. Report any incidents or infraction to the club manager immediately.

The bar scene here is like the scene in any big city. You should always exercise caution.
