The Tale Of
The Newsboy

Once upon a time there was a little newsboy who was very, very poor and he only sold old newspapers because he didn't have enough money for new ones.

People didn't by his newspapers because they were all so out of date, and they wanted new newspapers.

So the little newsboy never sold any, and every day he accumulated more and more old newspapers.

What the little newsboy did was put up a paper recycling plant, and he became a millionaire, bought out all the newspaper businesses and the news agencies, prohibited publishing current news, and thus obliged people to read only news of the past.

In the papers on sale today, for example, you'd read that the Zapatistas are about to arrive in Mexico City and that they'll meet with the Villistas there.

You can't quite make out the date, but it seems to either 1914 or 1997.

Buckle Up!

Mexico now has
a seat-belt law.

SCUBA DIVING IN CANCUN

Cancun is situated perfectly for divers wishing to make diving the focus of their visit to Mexico. Cancun Scuba Diving

From Cancun you are close to the Whale Sharks in the Gulf off of Isla Holbox.

North-East off of Cancun you have the island of Isla Mujeres with caves and Nurse Sharks nearby.

There are dive shops on Isla Mujeres and you can easily make your way to the island by ferry on your own, dive and return to the mainland, all in one day.

Alternatively you can boat out of Cancun and skip the ferry.

Other options include dividing your stay between Cancun and either; Isla Holbox, Isla Mujeres or Cozumel.

Cancun Scuba Dive When staying in Cancun, to dive the reefs at Cozumel, dive shops offer a number of different options depending largely on where the dive shop is located:

  • Boat from Cancun to Cozumel and return.
  • Dive shop sends car to pick you up and take you to a boat launch at a hotel South of Cancun or Puerto Morelos.
  • Dive shop sends car to pick you up and take you to a boat in Playa del Carmen then depart by water out of Playa del Carmen.
  • Dive shop sends car and takes you to ferry docks in Playa del Carmen, you take ferry across, boat/car is waiting for you at the docks in Cozumel. If car, they pick you up and drive you to the boat launch.
  • Fly to Cozumel, car picks you up and takes you to boat launch. Reverse to depart.
  • You can also rent a car or take the bus or colectivo to Puerto Morelos or Playa del Carmen on your own and go directly to a dive shop and go from there.

    CENOTES & CAVE DIVING

If you have never dove a cave or cenote then you are missing something that you might find fascinating. It is such an experience being down in the caves and caverns you will never forget it. We are not cave-divers ourselves, but we have snorkeled into caverns a few times.

    Mayan Rivier Maya Cave Diving

Truth is we at TravelYucatan.com are terrified of going deep into the caves. We have sat around and watched the divers come up and out of their dives and we can honestly say that every person comes out like they have experienced some magical event.

The cave and cenote diving is by large located South of Cancun along the Mayan Riviera. Many dive shops service both open water and cave/cenote diving.

Your options for getting there is to rent a car and drive to the location given to you by the dive shop. They may ask you to meet them at their shop or on the highway at the entrance to the cenote or at the cenote.

All equipment is provided and the divers taking you out should be certified.

There are two state-of-the-art Hyperbaric Chambers on Cozumel, one in Cancun and one in Playa del Carmen.

For more information see: Cave & Cenote Diving

Cancun is a world-class tourist resort destination and a thriving community of 450,000 full-time residents who lead normal, often very traditional lives.

The greatest asset Cancun has is its natural marine playground which sparkles with a warm sun more than 200 days of the year.

Cancun beaches are 14 miles of white-talc sand.

Don't forget that sunlight in the Yucatan is more direct than most are accustomed to. Limit you initial exposure then increase exposure as your vacation progresses.

Cancun resorts have long been a honeymoon destination but have now become a very hot place for weddings.

In Cancun partying takes precedence over just about everything.

There are more than 350 restaurants.

Cancun hotels are excellent, ranging from four and five star to Grand Tourism.
