CHEMUYIL MEXICO
Chemuyil is a small Mayan village located about 5 km. south of Akumal. The village is home to many locals who work in Akumal and the surrounding areas.
The road to enter Chemuyil is gated and tourists are discouraged from entering. It is not a tourist zone. The beach and the bay are private property and closed to the public. However, if you have been invited or have reason to go there then all you need do is explain your circumstances [in Spanish] to whoever meets you. Do not expect to be greeted with open arms here; as mentioned this is NOT a tourist zone.
You can visit the Cenote Xunaan-Ha which is located down a windy road just a short walk outside of the town. You can swim in the cenote and it is breathtakingly beautiful. It costs $3 for adults and $1.50 for kids.
