A triciclos [large yellow tricycles] is the Mexican version of a rickshaw. These rickshaws carry luggage and will take you anywhere in Playa. You can ask for the cost up-front. Very cheap.
TAXI
You can get a taxi almost anywhere in Mexico. Even in the most deserted out of the way place, there will be a taxi.
Taxi rates are often posted in hotel lobbies and there is usually one taxi sitting out front any hotel or attraction on the Riviera.

SCOOTERS [DEATH-TRAPS]
Many resorts have them for rent. There are also a number of rental shops in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Those things are poorly maintained "death-traps". You are risking your life renting one of those things. Please don't rent them.

Some hotels have bicycles, which you can use for usually one hour. You can also rent the bikes for longer times.
BUS
Many of the fascinating attractions located in the Mayan Riviera are located off of highway 307 which runs along the coast from Cancun to Chetumal.
Busses run out of Playa del Carmen to virtually any destination in Mexico. Actually, busses run out of any 1st class bus station to any destination in Mexico. 2nd and 3rd class busses run on daily routes.
A couple bus lines run busses up and down 307 all day, seven days a week.
Buses coming from Cancun and places along the coast, such as Tulum, arrive at the Riviera bus station, at the corner of Juárez and Quinta Avenida, by the town square. Buses coming from destinations in the interior of the peninsula or out of state arrive at the ADO station, on Avenida 20 between 12th and 14th streets.
Taking the bus is an inexpensive and reliable means of getting around the Mayan Riviera.
